War drama of Vaclav Marhoul – TOBRUK will represent Czech Republic on the prestige tournament, in which European Film Academy (EFA) give movie price every year. Story is enacted in year 1941 in hell of north-African desert was chosen by Czech film and television academy (ČFTA) from 25 full-length movies, which have premiere after 1st July 2008.
“I thank film academy, that it give believe to our movie. Naturally I am truly glad, and not for only me, but for above all actress, for a staff and all, who helped me,” said scripter, director and producer Václav Marhoul to the nomination.
Movie telling unfeeling and without pathos about thin line between heroism and cowardice, was inspired by the book of Stephan Cran – Red ensing of bravery, but really fates of volunteers of 11. Czechoslovakian battalion defending in WW II Libyan strategic Shipyard Tobruk on the side of Allies against German and Italian. Movie decorated with 9 nominations and three Czech lions and on Karlovy Vary fest introduced in exclusive 4K digital version, grew a tribute to Czechoslovakian war veterans.
Czech Republic have with other nineteen European states a right to nominate one movie, which goes direct to the close choice, 20 movies choose expert commission EFA. Completely choice of these 40 movies will make public on beginning of September 2009.

Titular guest is Miloš Forman.
