It seems that wherever we look, we are being warned of our health. Perhaps the aim is to take our mind off the recession but now it’s filtering into the mobile market. A new suite of health-related apps has been announced by the iPhone developer iTMP in order to improve our wellbeing.

SMHeart Link allows your iPhone to become both a fitness tracking system and a heart rate monitor. As a mix of both hardware and software, the system features a wireless ridge collecting data from distributed health and fitness sensors such as heart rate monitors and cycling sensors. This is sent to the iPhone via Wi-Fi.

The company partnered with New Leaf Fitness and apMyFitness for this upload function and is currently in discussions with other potential partners.

SMHeart Link is compatible with a number of heart monitor chest straps including Polar, Garmin, Reebok, Timex Ironman, Nike, New Balance and Numetrex.
